About Us

Colossians 2:7 – Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. (KJV)

“Rooted in the Word of God”

We are a diverse group of believers whose desire is to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (KJV)

Our goal is to worship the Lord using only the Bible as our guide. If you have questions you would like to ask, or if we may be able to help you in your understanding of God and what he wants for you in life, feel free to drop us a line. We are always ready to help.

story of The Pearland Congregation

The Church of Christ was established in AD 33, and its history can be studied in the book of Acts. Peter and the Apostles were inspired by the Holy Spirit and on that day Peter stood up and preached the first Gospel sermon. Upon the hearing of that sermon 3,000 people believed in Christ and were baptized for the remission of their sins. When these first Christians were raised from the waters of baptism, the Lord added them to His church. Since that day, Christians who have followed this sacred pattern have become members of the church of Christ.

Acts 2:14  But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: (KJV)
Acts 2:37-38  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
Acts 2:41  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. (KJV)
Acts 2:47  Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. (KJV)

The church of Christ located today at 2217 N. Grand Boulevard began assembling together in the fall of 1952 with a charter membership of about 12 persons. These people followed the pattern of the Bible and became simply Christians. They did not bear the name of any man or denomination. They were authentic Christians who bore the name of Christ, and were added to His church.

Acts 4:12  neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (KJV)

The meeting place at that time was a building used by the Pearland Volunteer Fire Department. From the small nucleus of Christians, the church has grown over the years.

Unable to support a full-time minister in the beginning, the church was aided by the Broadway Church of Christ in Houston, Texas who furnished evangelists and song leaders. The growth of the church demanded the purchase of five lots on Grand Boulevard and the first building was erected in 1953. The building consisted of four classrooms and a small auditorium with a seating capacity of about 110 persons.

Growth and expansion continued and in 1960, four additional lots were purchased and a new auditorium was built which is still in use today. In 1962, a new classroom wing was added and the entire structure was bricked. The office building was built in 1967 and in 1970, five additional lots were purchased. Three years later in 1973, the annex building was built to accommodate church functions. In 1955, the church supported its first full-time minister–Murphy McNeil. Ministers since that time include Robert Colley, John Lewis, Bill Hamilton, Louie White, George Carman, Ron Miller, O.F. “Dick” Case, DC Brown, Ryan Parsons, Paul Cartwright, and our current preacher Justin Gonzalez.

The church today is served by three elders–Gary Adams, Mike Ingram, and Chris Lindelof. The church is also served by three deacons who serve in a variety of service-oriented roles.

What We Believe

The Bible is the final truth and authority for the Christian today. We do not add to God’s word or take away from it. We live our lives according to His word. The way we worship is by following the pattern of worship that is seen in the New Testament. The way people become Christians today is the same way that is seen in the Bible. Simply put, if it’s not in the Bible we don’t do it or believe it. We have no creed or doctrine except the Bible and we follow the Bible only. We strive for unity in the teaching of New Testament doctrine. The Plea: The church of Christ strives to be the 1st century that Christ established and not more. This simply means a return to the original ground of the New Testament church, and to take up things just as Jesus left the apostles, and the apostles left us. Acts 2:42  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Philippians 3:17  Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (KJV) We cherish the hope and pattern that we may speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent, preach the good news of salvation to those who are lost, encourage the weary, lift up the fallen, strengthen the saved and point out the way of life everlasting to all whose lives we touch. The Bible: We recognize the Word of God (Bible) as the only standard and authority in religious matters. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (KJV) We believe the New Testament should be our guide in worship teaching and practice, remembering the words of Jesus: John 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV) 2 John 9  Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. (KJV) John 6:68  Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. (KJV) It is our goal to be Christians who follow God’s pattern and seek His old paths. We strive to be great students of God’s word so that we can know how to walk in His ways. We choose to stand and walk in the ways of God. Jeremiah 6:16  Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. (KJV) We desire to reach our community with the simple truth of God’s word and what it means for us today. We wish that all men and women come to a knowledge of God’s truth and be saved. 1 Timothy 2:4 “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4  who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (KJV)

We believe it is important to lead children to Jesus. Our Youth and Family ministry is designed to assist parents as they lead their children towards a better knowledge of Jesus and ultimately, a relationship with Him. We have fun and exciting programs for all ages to help our youth in their journey.

Events & Missions

This year we are reaching out to the local community and the world. We are looking forward to taking advantage of this great year of opportunity. Our theme for this year: “2023 Free In Christ”

Mission Trips to Africa: We support several preachers who work out of Savé, a provincial city in Benin, West Africa. These gentlemen are not working in the city itself but in remote villages surrounding the city. Some of these men ride for as much as three hours on a motorcycle just to reach a village in which to preach. We supply them with a base salary and money for upkeep on the motorcycles and other expenses they might incur trying to reach their congregations. We also support F.A.C.E. (French African Christian Education): This organization was formed in 2006 and is headed up by 11 board members from congregations in Texas, Arkansas and Kentucky. The purpose of this organization is to help collect and distribute money to the (B.T.C.) Benin Bible Training Center. This school of preaching in Zinvie, Africa is headed up by Dr.George Akpabli, and has turned out some fine young preachers. They are growing very quickly.
