What We Believe

About the Church of Christ

The Core: The core of our Christian walk is the sacrifice that Christ made for humanity. With the apostle Paul, we can declare: For what I received I passed on to you as of the first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3,4 NIV)

The Bible: All scripture is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16,17 NIV)

We recognize the Word of God, the Bible, as the only standard and authority in religious matters.

We believe the New Testament should be our guide in worship teaching and practice, remembering the words of Jesus: “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31,32 NIV)

Because of this, we strive to do things in Bible ways and to call Bible things by Bible names, taking heed to the warning of the Apostle: Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. (2 John 9 NIV)

The Walk: For those who enter the Christian walk and continue faithfully, they are given the following promises:

Forgiveness of Sins: In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. (Ephesians 1:7,8 NIV)

The Gift of the Holy Spirit: We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, what we may understand what God has freely given us. (1 Corinthians 2:12 NIV)

Eternal Life: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)

Our Plea: Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. (Philippians 3:17 NIV)

The plea of the churches of Christ is to restore the apostolic church, which simply means a return to the original ground of the New Testament church, and to take up things just as the apostles left them.

In humility, we cherish the hope that we may speak as the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent, preach the good news of salvation to those who are lost, encourage the weary, lift up the fallen, strengthen the saved and point out the way of life everlasting to all whose lives we touch. That all believers may be united in loyalty to Christ is our desire. That God may use us as a channel through which His blessings may flow into the lives of others is our prayer.

If you have questions you would like to ask, or if we may be able to help you in your understanding of God and what He wants for you in life, feel free to drop us a line. We are always ready to help.
